On Sunday morning it was clear many people were awake and out of bed well before the sun was up. Computers were switched on and data speeds were checked. Soon after, downloads started. Then video calls to family and friends in far-off places. The Sure monitoring devices showed one household downloaded a massive 60 gigabytes of data. 24 hours earlier it would have been nowhere near possible.
The latest population figures are the worst since current records began. The population statistics are produced by the Government Statistics Office and the data used starts at January 2010. Population totals are estimated every month and based on how many people leave and arrive and are born or die.
